What is a safety margin?

When designing printed materials such as flyers and cards, it is important to consider the safety margin. This is an imaginary area on the inside edge of your design in which you should not place important text or graphics.

A minimal deviation can always occur during the cutting process. If your text or important parts are too close to the edge, there is a chance that they will (partially) fall away.

Why is a safety margin important?

The cutting machines we use are very precise, but small deviations can always occur. So without a safety margin, you run the risk of texts or logos being cut off. With the right margin you ensure that your design always looks professional, just as you intended.

How much margin should you keep?

Maintain a safety margin of at least 5 mm from the cutting edge.

So always place your text, logos and other important elements at least 5mm inside the border of your design.
